Solo Thoughts – Crazy Taco!

‘How long will it be before we pick up a game and it says – for 1 player, rules for 2-4 players included?’ This was how I concluded one of my first ever posts, ‘Going Solo‘, and now I can say, ‘told you so!’

Crazy Taco, designed by Jesus Alvarez, has just hit Kickstarter and is first and foremost a solo game, but in the back of the rulebook it includes a two-player mode, marvellous!

So, what’s it all about?

Well, you’ve been dropped in at the deep end by your loving uncle and left to run his very popular fast food restaurant, Crazy Taco. Of course, you want to keep the business thriving and no doubt your uncle would be mildly upset to say the least if you manage to flush his hard work down the pan.

You’ll be kept busy managing the workforce, making sure they fulfil customers’ orders, keep the place tidy, and, of course, put their feet up for a much-needed tea-break.

Crazy Taco is a worker management game, and in this case the five workers are dice. There’s a manager, 3 workers, and an intern, each with their own die. These die vary – the manager is more about finance and has more $ symbols, whereas the workers’ prime task is serving the customers, and so their dice have more food and drink icons, and the intern, well, they get to serve food and drink, but aren’t allowed to take money and can’t take a break… I’m sure there’s a law about that!

Crazy Taco

Each turn customers will enter your restaurant, indicating what they want by symbols on their card. You’ll roll your dice and decide how to use them – maybe you have the right symbols to fulfil their order, or a $ symbol to play cashier and take their cash, or maybe you can’t as all your staff have decided to take a break!

Sounds easy? Well, there’s more… Chores need doing, such as keeping the place tidy, taking out the trash, or even the odd delivery to do. Miss doing these and your popularity will wane, as it will if you fail to complete an order in time.

Did I say time? Yes, those customers are an impatient bunch and will demand good service and demand it quickly. Customers form a queue as they enter, and the further to the right they move the more their patience will be tested. Leave them unfed for too long and they’ll walk out, casting disparaging remarks about the state of the place and your popularity will take a dive.

There’s more to it than just that, though, so be sure to check out the Kickstarter page and the video by Slickerdrips is also well worth a look. The pledge levels are very competitively priced (£14 will get you the standard edition), definitely worth a punt.

    1. Lol, actually no. I’ve hit my ceiling on Kickstarter this year. It’s would too easy to back everything that comes along of interest, so I have to regulate myself… or else I’d be in the dog house! 😉

      1. Good reply! 🙂 Obviously the domestic-powers-that-be read your blog, so you need to put in such a comment to throw them off the track!
