I spent a little longer on these because I actually quite like the look of them. I can imagine my characters hot footing away from one, as it reaches out trying to grasp them with a long claw-like hand – it really fits the mood of the game.
Colour wise, I just followed the artwork on the token. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, each miniature has a little cardboard token that slides into the base and contains info relevant to the game. This makes the bases large and cumbersome, hence everyone who paints these miniatures rebases them to something more manageable.
Anyway, after removing some of the more obvious mould lines, I gave them a Zenithal prime. I then used Space Wolves Grey contrast paint for the flesh – I gave one a single coat and the other two, just to give them a little variation. This didn’t really give enough contrast between the highlights and shadows and so I spent a little time highlighting up using Sombre Grey, Heavy Bluegrey, and finally Wolf Grey.
For the dress, I turned to my thing of the moment, Ink. I thinned Black ink using Glaze medium and gave the dress a coat. Ink thinned like this acts almost the same way as contrast paint, though the shadows often need reinforcing. To do that, I used neat Black Ink and selectively filled the recesses.
Finally, I added a bit of Green and Yellow (didn’t write down which ones) to the face and fingernails, varnished, and put them on transparent bases – two more down.
Next up are the two Feathered Serpents from the Path of The Serpent expansion. These are slightly better quality miniatures and so I’ll spend a little more time on them…
