Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Valkyrie

One of Yasmin’s Asgardians and an easy paint for me, as I just followed what I did for Thor… more or less!

Marvel: Crisis Protocol - Valkyrie

Primed Black and the dry-brushed all over with Pale Grey Blue and then White… I think you know what’s coming next?

Yep, Black Lotus Xpress paint, a layer all over followed by another dry-brush of white. I then added another layer of Black Lotus.

For the metal – her sword blades, greaves, and her… er… boob armour – I mixed a bit of Metal Color Steel with Glaze Medium and had a go at ‘glazing metallics!’ Is this such a thing? Anyway, I was quite pleased with the result, as it dulls down the metallic effect and comes across a bit like an attempt at NMM.

The flesh was fun. I used three flesh shades from Life Color – two bases and a light shade – and then glazed over with the lightest to bring it together.

Everything else was straightforward, though I might have over done her Blonde hair a tad!

Hoping to get a game in on Friday, before we take Yasmin back to Liverpool on Saturday. Will she see some action? With Yasmin, anything is possible… Bring it on!

Fantastic painting Justin, Yasmin must be very pleased, for blonde hair, I start with either GW Steel Legion drab, or GW Zandri dust, then mid tone of GW dorn yellow, with either a hihlight of GW Ushabti bone, or Wraithbone, depending on whether I want dark blonde or light blonde, gives a more natural look, if you have the time.

      Hi, Thanks Dave.
I usually do something like a base of Earth, then layer up with Ochre and Ochre mixed with Elfic Flesh, and final highlight with the Elfic Flesh.
Should have stuck to what I know!
Experimented with Yellow Ink and went a coat too far. Hey, Ho, all part of learning!

Yellow and black make for a great combo! I think she looks great and the colors you picked makes her look quite somber and imposing which is perfect for MCP. I paint blonde hair with different colors than Dave, but I also avoid using any kind of actual yellow paint. I’d second his idea of giving it a try as it helped me better understand how to paint realistic looking hair. I hope you were able to play MCP as well! 🙂

      Thank you, Jeff.
See my reply to Dave on how I usually go about it, but you know me, I can’t help trying something different and it doesn’t always work out.
Never got a game of MCP in, just not enough time, and now Yasmin is back at Uni so it will have to wait until summer😞

Experimentation is good and even when you make mistakes, you learn from them over time. That is a bummer though summer will be here before we know it, thankfully!

Sweet painting, she looks great. Make sure you’re using the updated (landscape) card for Valkyrie as she got a few wee rules changes a while ago. I like her a lot on the tabletop, she holds her own amongst three threat brawlers.

      Thanks, mate.😁
We do have all the updated cards but so far Yasmin hasn’t played with Valkyrie – my fault, slow painter!
I’ll keep what you say in mind when she does, thank you for the warning!
