It has been over a month since my last post. Couple of reasons for this. Firstly, I’ve had a few issues with my computer, which, by the fact that I’m writing this, you can see I’ve managed to sort. Secondly, I’ve spent several hours playing a particular game in order to write a review (hurrah!). I’ve made copious notes and taken a whole load of pictures that should magically rearrange themselves into something resembling a post in the very near future. As for the game, well, you’ll just have to wait and see!
In the meantime, here’s Iron Fist, which I painted at the same times as Valkyrie; I haven’t picked up a brush since but I have been prepping my next batch of minis to paint.
Iron Fist was once again a play with Vallejo Xpress paints, except for his flesh, that is. Unlike Valkyrie, though, I stuck to convention and primed him white, as I wanted the colours bright and vibrant.
For the yellow, I used Imperial Yellow Xpress with a white highlight, and the green was a couple of coats of Forest Green Xpress.
The dragon was a wet blend starting with Imperial Yellow at the top and working in Nuclear Yellow, Martian Orange, and Phoenix Orange as I progressed down. I added a bit of these colours to the base and to Iron Fist himself to give a bit of Object Source Lighting affect.
I had a few issues with his flesh, all my own doing, because I started it and then didn’t get back to him for a couple of weeks, at which point I’d forgotten what I’d done and what I’d intended to do next. I though I was following the same procedure that I used for Valkyrie but I’d forgotten that I’d added a flesh wash over the basecoat and when I started the next layer it totally threw me. Everything seemed to be the wrong colour!
I did fix it in the end but it took me longer than I’d intended. So, all the flesh was painted using Lifecolor flesh tones, which is starting to be my go to paint for flesh, as they layer nicely and there’s a good choice of differing tones. They also make a good glaze, which I used here to blend things together a bit.
And that’s Iron Fist. Not a lot to him at all and using Xpress paints made it a relatively quick and pain free experience.
I think I used him once on the table, before I painted him up that was, but I can’t remember much about it – read into that what you will!
Now, time to move on and get my review finished. On recent form it should be done and dusted by the end of June. Note, I’m not saying which year that is, because you know me…

Whoa, that mini is cool as HELL

Good to hear you got over your computer woes, and look forward to reading your review, Like what you achieved with the express paints, there are areas that you can tell, and others it’s a lot harder to see, shall continue to watch with interest.
